GLASS LONOMER CEMENT

Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) is a tooth-colored dental restorative material made by mixing a fluoroaluminosilicate glass powder with an aqueous solution of polyacrylic acid. It sets through an acid-base chemical reaction, forming a strong bond with the tooth structure.

GIC is widely used in restorative and preventive dentistry because it chemically adheres to enamel and dentin, continuously releases fluoride, and has a coefficient of thermal expansion similar to natural teeth. These properties help reduce the risk of secondary (recurrent) dental caries and improve the longevity of restorations.
